Big update: The school board voted yes in favor of the Long Range Facility Plan, which prioritizes rebuilding Lake Grove in place.
Next, a volunteer bond committee will be chosen to help craft a bond renewal , which is currently planned to maintain the current tax rate. It will appear on the ballot next year, November 2025.
The bond renewal will attempt to cover many plan priorities including: Forest Hills and Lake Grove Elementary School necessary rebuilds, critical maintenance, repairs and safety needs for other schools, stem/ tech upgrades for each HS, new classroom space for other schools and a home classroom learning environment for our community’s post-highschool students that need our genuine care and investment.
The real MVP’s = you. THANK YOU. Your generous donations funded our 600 highly visible yard signs. The signs raised awareness and appeared in lawns all over the city. The big game-changers were people from non-Lake Grove neighborhoods who supported Save Lake Grove. The voter polls indicated that a bond would not pass if Lake Grove was sacrificed. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for believing in Lake Grove.
There’s one reason I’m leaving my yard sign up. Although the school board had a majority vote on the plan, one influential school board member made comments during the meeting suggesting the public needs to be re-educated on what they really should want. The member was outspoken early on wanting the entirety of the Lake Grove site to lease to the city/ developers for a new library/ rec center. The city is still in line for leftover space at the front of our lot after the rebuild and defends their pitch for the entire site . Their non-acknowledgment that we both could have fit all along is hard to absorb and square.
We will bring our energy to help get the no-tax-increase planned bond renewal over the finish line in November 2025.
The original Lake Grove school house was built on our site in 1924. It burned down in 1948 and was rebuilt again on its current site. Here’s to another hopeful 100 years of Lake Grove Elementary School at its rightful home in the center of our Lake Grove village.
