Hello,
My name is Amanda Dority. I am the great-granddaughter of Arthur and Margaret Dority who donated 25% of the land where Lake Grove Elementary currently stands.
Shortly after WWII, my great-grandparents donated their land specifically for the use of Lake Grove Elementary to provide adequate learning conditions for students. The deed stipulates that the land is to be used for the school and the school alone. My family has always highly valued education as well as the Lake Grove community, and I can say with absolute certainty that, if they were alive today, Arthur and Lake Grove community, and I can say with absolute certainty that, if they were alive today, Arthur and Margaret Dority would be 100% against their generous donation being used for anything other than a school for the youth of Lake Grove.
My father, Arthur Dority Ill and his three sisters all attended Lake Grove Elementary. I have heard fond stories of my father’s time there, and he shared that he particularly loved walking to and from school with his friends. One of his favorite stories involved him walking to school in deep snow.
Lake Grove Elementary is recognized by the state of Oregon as a historic sight. In our modern, fastpaced world that changes everyday, it is becoming more and more of a rarity to find something that directly connects us to our roots, and to those who lived and died before us.
After my fathers passing last summer, the words family, legacy, and heritage mean more to me than ever. I am committed to honoring my forefathers by doing whatever I can to make sure that their past generosity to our community continues to benefit the generations to come, as they intended.
Myself and the entire Dority family support saving Lake Grove Elementary School and preserving the history and integrity of our beloved community.
