The “Smart Location Calculator” was developed by the EPA to measure environmental benefits as well as physical and mental benefits of walking to a location. It scores our current location of our Lake Grove School as the “smartest location” in all of Lake Oswego to have a building that serves the surrounding community.
It scores Uplands, where proposals are suggesting LGE students relocate, as in the worst category in Lake Oswego. Environmentally it also scores Uplands as significantly higher miles traveled, emissions, access to transit, and total transportation, energy intensity associated with traveling to the site.
Check out the tool for yourself to see what our LGE students would lose if they were shipped to Uplands, with or without a significant rebuild of that school (which is not on the table anyway).
